Signal Average ECG

Signal Average ECG is a more detailed ECG that takes around twenty (20) minutes to complete. It is used to observe and capture abnormal heartbeats that sometimes occur. The computer magnifies the images of the abnormal beats and shows the electrical activity of those beats in more detail.

Preparation:

  • A small area of the chest may need to be shaved
  • Wear a shirt or blouse that opens in the front

During the test:

  • You will lie quietly without moving or talking on an examination table. Sticky pads (electrodes) will be placed on your chest and back.
  • The room will be quiet without any motion or sound.
  • The technician will remain with you but will not talk with you
  • The test will be sent to your provider for interpretation

After the test:

  • Your provider will review and interpret the ECG
  • Test results will be communicated to you in a confidential manner by your provider or their nurse in about 5-10 days
