Electrophysiology and Ablations
Electrophysiology is a procedure that uses special catheters, placed in the heart, to measure the electrical activity associated with a patient’s irregular heart rhythm, and to locate the area in the heart that is causing the rhythm problems.
Ablation is a procedure in which a special type of energy is used to destroy the small portion of the heart tissue that is causing the irregular heart rhythms to occur. Sometimes this procedure is done at the same time as the electrophysiology study. The hospital and your provider’s nurse will inform you of specific test instructions.
